KUCHING: Zecon Berhad has officially forged a partnership with Neuto Energy Sdn Bhd through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

The collaboration aims to pave the way for the design, construction, testing, and commissioning of a 2 million-watt (2 MW) rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) system at Hospital Pakar Kanak-Kanak Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

The MOU was signed by Zecon Group Managing Director Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad and Neuto’s Chief Executive Director, Andy Low.

According to a statement, under the terms of the MOU, Neuto will serve as a technology design partner for the PV module capacity, which includes layout optimization and minimising panel technology degradation.

It further mentioned that Neuto will lead in developing all technical proposals during the pre-and-post development stages of the project.

On the other hand, Zecon will act as the construction partner and owner of the rooftop solar PV project.

Zainal stated that the signing of the MOU marks a synergistic partnership between the two companies, embarking on a transformative journey towards advancing the sustainable development goals in the country.

“This MOU marks our initial step for The Project, which will be subsequently followed by a definitive agreement between the parties upon finalising the relevant commercial terms and obtaining necessary approvals from the relevant authorities.

“As we venture into the renewable energy sector, we believe that this is a pivotal step within our sustainability roadmap, demonstrating Zecon Group’s commitment in this regard.

“This venture marks the beginning of our foray into the solar energy space, with the project set to kick off in the upcoming fourth quarter of this year,” he said.

For the record, the said project is expected to generate at least 250,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of energy per month with an estimated reduction of up to 154 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) per month.

Furthermore, he shared that Zecon’s plans extend beyond this project, encompassing upcoming projects such as solar farms and carbon crediting. They have allocated a substantial portion of their approximate 3,000 acres of land banks for these projects.

“We are committed to incorporating sustainability into our business strategy, with a strong focus on the well-being of our communities and the environment.

“Our aim is to nurture long-term economic growth and enhance the value we bring to our shareholders.

“By adopting global best practices and fostering strategic collaborations, our sustainability initiative not only enhances competitiveness but also promotes a sustainable way of life for our people and stakeholders,” he said.

Additionally, Zainal said as Zecon progresses on its sustainability journey, it remains dedicated to achieving its four Sustainable Development Goals.

“We are prioritising the health and well-being of all, ensuring affordable and clean energy, fostering innovation in industry and infrastructure, and contributing to the growth of sustainable cities and communities,” he said.
