LUNDU: Youths are urged to actively participate in sports and recreation so that they will not engage in illicit activities.

Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang said their participation in sports activities could pave the way for them to represent the state and country in competitive events.

“Fostering sports participation among the youth by organising sports activities within the local community, will definitely steer the youth away from non-beneficial pursuits and help uncover sporting talent among the younger generation.

“The efforts by Opar Community Sports Club (KSK) in hosting the Opar KSK Sports Carnival 2023, is a great way to unearthing sports talent among young people,” he said when officiating at the closing ceremony of the carnival at Dewan Kampung Sedaing over the weekend.

The three-week-long sports extravaganza, which commenced on Nov 4, featured sepak takraw, volleyball and futsal competitions, with each sport contested over a one-week period.

Tebaro Knight clinched the championship in the sepak takraw event, demonstrating outstanding prowess on the field.
