KUCHING: Police arrested a 17-year-old youth from Kpg Arjuna, Puncak Borneo on Wednesday afternoon for allegedly raping an underage student from Sibu.
Supt Aidil Bolhassan in confirming the arrest said the girl got to know the suspect through the messaging application WeChat.
According to Supt Aidil, the suspect, who dropped out of school last May, had invited the victim to his cousin’s house on June 24. She stayed there three days and they had sex four times. Later he brought her to his house and there they had sex again.
The victim’s mother, a school bus driver, woke up at 3am on June 24 and found that her daughter was not in her room.
She suspected that she had gone out to meet her boyfriend by climbing over the fence while her boyfriend waited outside.
Later, the suspect texted the victim’s mother, pretending not to know the young girl’s whereabouts by asking her even though she was with him at that time.
The victim’s family contacted the police and asked the suspect to bring the victim to the police station. After the victim returned home, she admitted to her mother that she had had sex with her boyfriend.
Police sent the victim to the Sarawak General Hospital and it was confirmed that she had been raped. Supt Aidil said the suspect was detained and would be charged for rape under Section 376 of the Penal Code.
