I’m very excited to introduce myself, Dr Aaron Wong, to you as the newest contributor to the Sarawak Tribune. I’m very blessed to have this opportunity and will do my very best to entertain you, inspire you, or both with the new column: Your Eyes Tell.

Now, here’s a little about me:

Kuching is where I was born, raised and where I continue to call home, but I’ve lived in New Zealand and Australia for a good one third of my life. This has given me the perspective that our community needs more awareness in eye health, and I am keen to do my part.

Welcome to Your Eyes Tell, a new column dedicated to all things eyecare. This space is designed not only to educate but to raise awareness about the importance of eye health in our community. Our eyes reveal a lot about our well-being—they reflect our health, our habits, and our unique perspectives. Through this column, we’ll explore how you can better care for your eyesight and understand what your eyes might be telling you about your overall health.

I’m a University of Auckland graduate and a specialist in myopia control management. Having served under the Australian Health System, I’m dedicated to preserving and improving vision, focusing on rising myopia cases in children due to lifestyle changes and screen time. Beyond this, I want to prevent eye diseases by raising community awareness about eye problems.

Your Eyes Tell will help you understand how to protect your vision. For parents, this column will also provide insights on managing children’s vision.

Beyond this newspaper column, I’m making eyecare more accessible to everyone. Readers can take advantage of free online consultations to receive personalised guidance without leaving home. To learn more, follow us on our socials like Instagram, facebook, twitter where we share additional tips, updates on new treatments, and details on how to book your consultation.

On Saturday each week, ‘Your Eyes Tell’ will aim to balance scientific insights with practical advice, making eye health approachable for everyone. Join us as we dive into the world of eyecare. Remember — your eyes tell a story worth seeing clearly.
