Young M’sian Muay Thai champion wins gold in Thailand

BANGKOK: Muhammad Mikail Ghazali Zulfikar, a 14-year-old Muay Thai kickboxer, displayed exceptional skill as he clinched the gold medal in the 42-kg category for ages 14 to 15 at the prestigious WBC Amazing MuayThai World Festival here recently.

Representing Rentap Muay Thai Gym from Kuching, Sarawak, Mikail, the younger brother of Sarawak’s renowned Muay Thai figure Muhammad Johan Ghazali, triumphed over Japanese athlete Kenshin Tenabe with a score of 6-1 in the final bout at Lumpinee Stadium.

This is Mikail’s second consecutive victory, having secured the title in last year’s edition. His awesome performance contributed significantly to Malaysia’s success, with a total of four gold and four silver medals during the four-day championship which 650 contestants from 70 countries, according to a statement by MySukan TV on Facebook.

Three more gold medals were claimed by Malaysian athletes, namely Radhit Eadric Rioh Roy Angau in the 71kg category (12 to 13 years), Wyjie Firdaus Aziz in the 48kg category (12 to 13 years), and Adrynna Thanicha Seesombat in the girls’ 36kg category (12 to 13 years).

In a notable achievement, Emylia Lynn – Johan and Mikail’s younger sister – secured a silver medal in the 12 to 13 years category.
