That’s Burger Boy’s advice to sustain business

By Ekamiezza Kamil

KUCHING: Interest alone will not guarantee a business will last long. Burger specialist Jahario Azman, who has been selling burgers for almost 20 years, will tell you that.

He said in order for a business to thrive, an individual must not only have an interest (in business) but must also have fighting spirit and not give up easily.

“Life still has to go on even though we face various challenges.

“Giving up shouldn’t be in us — remember as businessmen, we have wives, children and employees to feed.

“If we give up easily, who will feed them?” he said.

Jahario Azman or fondly known as Boy

Elaborating further, the owner of Burger Boy owner, who is also fondly known as Boy, said he also had to face challenges, especially when the movement control order (MCO) was first implemented in March last year where he lost his source of income for three months and had to rely on government assistance.

“In addition, as traders, we should also be wise in using technology to market our items and not just rely on physical stores.

“Since physical distancing is mandatory to stop the spread of Covid-19, delivery services are a very suitable option to facilitate the affairs of customers and traders.

“Apart from receiving orders through WhatsApp, I also use the Food Panda services,” he said, hoping that small traders like him will be persistent in running their business.

Santiana Hamzah

Meanwhile, Boy’s wife Santiana Hamzah said she will faithfully go through hardships with her husband no matter what problems come their way in their business.

In the beginning, she had to learn many things, including preparing ingredients (for making burgers) as well as managing daily sales.

“At first, it was a bit difficult. However, I am committed to learning many new things to help my husband. If not me, who else will help him?

“Alhamdulillah, now I am proficient in this field and it helps a lot to facilitate our daily affairs,” she said.
