MIRI: Miri Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang has expressed hope that the newly appointed Miri City Council councillors will usher in a renewed chapter for the city, rooted in excellence, dedicated service, and transformative development.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of councillors at the Miri City Council building today (Apr 13), Yii called for a united front in shaping the future of Miri in line with its vision to become a “Green, Smart, and the Most Liveable International Resort City”.
“May Miri continue to thrive as a beacon of progress, sustainability, and harmony,” said Yii.
He noted that the council’s efforts remain aligned with the Miri Smart City Agenda under the framework of the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
“Our vision is to transform Miri into a modern, sustainable, and technology-driven city that prioritises the well-being of its people,” Yii said.
“Among our priorities are improving digital infrastructure, enhancing public transportation, promoting green and sustainable living, and ensuring inclusivity in development.”
Expressing his gratitude to the outgoing councillors, Yii acknowledged their instrumental role in advancing Miri’s development over the years.
“Your dedication, commitment, and unwavering service have brought about tremendous progress—from infrastructure improvements to community empowerment initiatives. Your contributions have laid a strong foundation for us to build upon. Thank you for your tireless efforts in making Miri a better city for all,” he said.
Yii also congratulated the incoming councillors, encouraging them to bring fresh ideas and innovative approaches to the table.
“Each of us brings unique experiences and strengths. Together, let us lead with unity, passion, and a shared sense of purpose. Though challenges may arise, I believe that with courage, resilience, and collaboration, we will overcome them and achieve meaningful progress,” he said.
Yii’s term has been extended until March 2026.
Deputy Mayor Ariffin Mohamad and the newly sworn-in councillors will serve until March 2028.
