MUKAH: The Sarawak government under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will ensure that the Sumbangan Keperluan Asas Sarawak or SKAS can be used by the recipients of the financial assistance programme.

Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine said the public do not need to worry about the aid because it can be used throughout the year.

“The Sarawak government is always concerned about the welfare of the people and we need to face the challenge to ensure that we are in line with the global demand for digital use in daily life.

“We should be proud that Sarawak has started this step earlier than other states in Malaysia.”

Royston said this to reporters when inspecting the location for the Sarawak ID and SPAY Global Registration Programme at Dewan Sri Pekala here, recently.

Elaborating further, he said the era of digitalisation is a challenge for the people and the Sarawak government in many aspects, including the economy, administration and society.

He explained that digital technology has become “part of our daily routine, thus affecting the way we communicate, work, pay bills, registration processes, attendance systems and so on.”

“However, it requires the people to use the latest gadgets or information technology devices to be more efficient and accessible in their use.

“This is what is faced by SKAS recipients who have not yet registered for Sarawak ID and SPAY Global because they are still using non-smartphone phones and some do not have phones,” he added.

Earlier, the Mukah District Office opened 12 locations for the Sarawak ID and SPAY Global registration to facilitate the registration of SKAS recipients starting from Jan 18 to 20.
