KUCHING: The Sarawak Foundation (Yayasan Sarawak) has consistently provided financial assistance to needy Sarawakian students.

It has currently approved a total of 5,400 scholarships for Sarawakian students in the form of Admission Assistance to Tertiary/Technical Education and Inisiatif Graduan Pulang Sarawak (iGPS).

According to its statement issued on Tuesday (May 17), the foundation has approved approximately 1,500 education loans to Sarawakian students and among the schemes available are Local Education Scholarship Loan, Overseas Education Loan, Technical Training Scholarship Loan and Sarawak Higher Education Scholarship Loan.

In regards to the Sarawak Foundation Programmes and Assistance, approximately 4,800 children will get free school transportation in 2022.

“In 2022, 157 schools around Sarawak will benefit from the Secondary School Tuition Class Initiative.

“In addition, 56 schools have benefitted from the High Performing Rural Schools (HIPERS) initiative and a total of 3,555 schools are now receiving donations and aid.

“A total of 25,400 coupons for school uniforms; each valued at RM200 have been delivered to resident offices in Sarawak and subsequently to the eligible students,” it said.

Students who have excelled in their studies, whether technical or tertiary, are also given incentives by the Sarawak Foundation.

A total of 228 students have benefited from repayment incentives thus far. Students who excel in their studies can receive up to 75 per cent of their entire education debt as a payback incentive, which will encourage students to improve their academic performance.
