KUCHING: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap has called on educational institutions in his constituency to apply for allocations to fund activities or upgrade their facilities.
He said such funding can be made available though his Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) allocations.
“If we listen to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, he has made it clear that education and improving the income of Sarawakians are priorities.
“That being said, if they (education institutions) want to organise any activities, come to Kota Sentosa service centre and see me.
“I will assist them with the allocation and ensure it is provided to support their educational programmes,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters after officiating at the Tabika Jabatan Kemajuan Masyarakat (Kemas) Appreciation Day here today (Jan 14).
Earlier in his speech, he allocated a total of RM50,000 to Tabika Kemas Kampung Stampin, while another RM5,000 will be given to the organisers of Tabika Kemas Appreciation Day.
“I will continue to support and assist Kemas in any way that I can,” he said, emphasising that early childhood education starts from home before children enrol in education institutions.
He urged all members of the community, especially parents and guardians, to support efforts in educating children to become quality students, rather than leaving the entire responsibility of education solely to teachers at kindergartens or schools.
“May all these children continue to excel in their education, reaching the highest levels, and become valuable individuals to their faith, community, and nation,” he added.
