KUCHING: Luisa Montalvo, the 2024 Toastmasters World Champion of Public Speaking, is set to inspire audiences as the keynote speaker at Utama Toastmasters Club’s upcoming educational meeting on Jan 16.
The event, which will be held online via Zoom at 7.45 pm, features Montalvo’s keynote address titled ‘The Journey to the World Stage: Trials Along the Way’. It promises to offer insights into her remarkable path to securing the prestigious title.
Vice president of Education at Utama Toastmasters Club Amanda Lee highlighted the significance of the event, calling it an exceptional opportunity for participants to learn directly from a world-class speaker.
“She triumphed over 30,000 contestants from 150 countries to win the world’s largest speech contest in August 2024. We are deeply honoured to have Montalvo as our keynote speaker,” said Lee in a press statement issued today.
The event is co-hosted by Utama Toastmasters Club Kuching, Bandar Sibu Toastmasters Club, Swan City Toastmasters Club, and other Toastmasters Clubs in Kuching Division, aiming to engage a global audience via Zoom.
Vice president of Public Relations at Utama Toastmasters Club Stanley Gona noted that the meeting is part of a series of community engagement initiatives aimed at developing communication and leadership skills.
“These programmes are designed to foster personal growth. Attendees will gain insights into Toastmasters’ structure and take their first steps toward enhancing their communication and leadership abilities,” he said.
The meeting will feature the hallmark segments of a Toastmasters session: prepared speeches, impromptu Table Topics, and speech evaluations.
Montalvo, a retired Texan, earned her world title with a powerful speech titled ‘37 Strangers’.
The speech recounts her near-death experience following a severe car accident two years ago, which left her wheelchair-bound with limited mobility. Her achievement as the first Hispanic champion adds to her illustrious record, which includes a second-place finish in the 2019 contest.
