KUCHING: Workers hope to be appreciated for their hard work and contributions and to have a good working environment.
Labour Day is celebrated annually on May 1 to honour workers and raise awareness of their rights.
New Sarawak Tribune spoke to workers about their opinions and expectations regarding appreciation from their employers.
Jennica Andrea Kotien, 24, Marketing Executive
“Companies can demonstrate appreciation for their employees by offering flexible work arrangements, including remote work options, to help employees balance their personal and professional lives. Celebrating employees’ achievements, such as work anniversaries or personal accomplishments, through small gestures like giving out a card or cake can also show appreciation.”
Muhamad Luqman Nur Hakeem Dandan, 24, Customer Service
“As an employee, I hope that the employer will appreciate all employees regardless of their rank or age. For instance, the employer can provide insurance coverage in case of any unpleasant incidents. The employer can also hold a performance ceremony and award certificates of appreciation to employees who meet all deadlines, work with transparency and trust, and go above and beyond.”
Francesca Meragi Tungkat, 25, Engineer
“Employers can also demonstrate appreciation by offering bonuses, promotion to higher positions, and awards for outstanding achievements.”
Johannes Khojang Mathew, 26, Insurance Agent
“Since we are an insurance agency, we receive free insurance, flexible working hours, and can apply for leave anytime we need. Additionally, our agency has created a pleasant work environment for agents and staff.”
