KUCHING: Police personnel have been reminded to continuously uphold integrity and honour while discharging their duties.

Penang police chief Datuk Seri A Thaiveegan, who represented Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun, said policing was not an easy task and that it also required sacrifices and honesty.

He said a long journey awaited the new members of the forces where they would be facing various challenges.

He told them on the need to adapt to a constantly changing environment and to avoid taking the wrong step.

“Always bear in mind that as a trained policeman, you must think rationally before deciding on any action.

“You must also act based on the regulation as stipulated,” said Thaiveegan during a press conference after witnessing the police constable graduation ceremony for the Series 3 and Series 7 (2018) held at Pulapol, Jalan Puncak Borneo near here yesterday.

He cautioned the new recruits that any wrong decision and action would certainly bring about negative implications on themselves and the force.

Thaiveegan also advised them to not hesitate in seeking advice from senior officers whenever in doubt.

“Do not be shy to ask for their advice in order to get the best results.

“At the same time, respect your seniors because this culture will ensure a strong understanding in the team and also in fostering good relationship among you,” he said.

As frontline officers, police personnel should also show their sincerity when dealing with the society at large.

“Show the community that you are serving with integrity and honesty, and that you are always concerned about the problems that the community faces.

“Show compassion in dealing with members of the public and be fair,” said Thaivageen.
