PAN BORNEO HIGHWAY
MUKAH: Works on several flyovers along the Pan Borneo Highway project appear to be slow-going, apparently due to the movement control order (MCO) imposed on March 18 to control the spread of Covid-19 pandemic in the country.
A ground survey by New Sarawak Tribune found that the flyover at the junction of Jalan Sibu-Mukah/Jalan Sibu-Bintulu seemed to be inching slowly towards completion.
The NST team noticed that only the central section of the flyover was almost completed, while the remaining sections have yet to be constructed.
Meanwhile, the flyover being constructed at the roundabout of Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman (leading to Sibu Airport and Sibu Jaya) and Jalan Bintulu-Selangau were progressing smoothly.
Flyovers are major components of the multi-billion ringgit Pan Borneo Highway project, which constitute a certain percentage of the contract cost.
Its construction is challenging, looking at the scope of work, building materials and land area involved.
When completed, the flyovers will facilitate the flow of traffic and simultaneously reduce congestion.
