KUCHING: Padungan assemblyman Wong King Wei yesterday lodged a police report to facilitate investigation into a Facebook posting of false defamatory messages against Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDHEP) Chong Chieng Jen.

Wong said the Facebook had on June 27 posted allegation against Chong claiming he profited from the issuance of approved permits (APs) to eight food and beverage (F&B) manufacturers in Sarawak to import sugar.

“We have reason to believe that the Facebook page belongs to a political party as a propaganda tool because all of the posts made are only attacking DAP members,” said Wong in press conference after he lodged a police report at the Kuching District Police Headquarters.

Wong disclosed that in his police report he has urged the police to investigate the Facebook page and its possible affiliation with the political party.

“We believe this is a political propaganda because if we look at this Facebook page that goes by a Chinese wording translated as ‘berdirilah orang Sarawak’ (stand up Sarawakians),” he noted.

He challenged the administrators of the Facebook page to come forward with justification on their allegation and not to hide like a ‘mouse’ behind the social media.
