SIBU: A woman ran into a burning house at Sanhill Park here to save the life of a young neighbour.

In yesterday’s incident, Vanessa Julia, who is in her 40s, told reporters that she heard the child’s cries.

“I ran to the (neighbour’s) house and luckily, the gate was unlocked.

“I went straight in and brought him out of the house.

“Then, I saw thick smoke coming out of the house,” she said.

The boy, who is seven years old, suffered burns on his left hand.

Meanwhile, Sibu Bomba Zone 4 chief Janggan Muling said they received a report about a fire at 10.06am and firefighters from the Sungai Merah station rushed to the scene.

“When they arrived at the scene, our men used a water tank to extinguish the fire,” he added.

Meanwhile, Sibu OCPD ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit confirmed the incident, saying at the time of the fire, the child was home alone as both his parents were at work.

He said the boy received treatment from medical personnel at the scene. “This should be a lesson to all parents not to leave your children alone at home without supervision,” Stanley added.
