Woman pleads not guilty to forgery charges

SIBU: A 46-year-old woman claimed trial at the Magistrates’ Court here today to a charge of forging signatures on purchase order documents with intention to deceive.

When the nature of the charge was read and explained to Sofiah Yahya, she understood but denied the charge.

Magistrate Romario Jonoi released her on a RM3,000 bail in two sureties pending further mention on May 14.

She is alleged to have forged signatures on 17 local purchase order documents for the purpose of obtaining cash.

The offence took place at Sekolah Kebangsaan Singat in Sibu district between January 3 and May 5, 2020.

She faces up to seven years’ imprisonment and liable to fine, if convicted.

DPP Aiman Zarith prosecuted while Sofiah was unrepresented by legal counsel.
