SIBU: A private company executive suffered a loss of RM108,401.50 after falling victim to an online non-existent investment scheme.

According to Sibu Police Chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili, the victim, a woman in her 50s, had been contacted via WhatsApp by a man who introduced himself as Chen Hao and lured her into investing in what he claimed was a JP Morgan scheme promising lucrative returns.

“The suspect provided details about the investment and instructed the victim to make payments in stages to secure the promised profits.

“The victim made a total of 26 transactions amounting to RM108,401.50, depositing the funds into nine different local bank accounts as directed by the suspect.

“When she attempted to contact him after completing all the payments, she discovered that her calls had been blocked,” he said in a statement today (Jan 12).

The case is currently investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.

Zulkipli advised the public to remain vigilant and avoid falling prey to such fraudulent schemes, which continue to target unsuspecting victims.
