KUCHING: A 36-year-old local woman was found dead in a rented room at a shoplot along Jalan Batu Kawa, leading police to classify the case as murder.

Padawan police chief Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi said the discovery was made after authorities received a report at 2.16 pm on Thursday (Feb 6) from the Batu Kawa police station, alerting them to an unconscious woman inside the room.

“A team from the Criminal Investigation Department of the Padawan District Police Headquarters rushed to the scene and found the victim lying face-down on a mattress in the rented room on the first floor of the shoplot,” he said.

He added that a piece of cloth was found tied around the victim’s neck, and medical personnel confirmed that she had died at the scene.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
