Woman falls into drain near mall on her way to work

KUCHING: A woman sustained minor leg injuries after falling into seven-foot-deep drain along Jalan Simpang Tiga this morning.

The incident happened at the median strip in front of The Spring shopping mall as the 21-year-old was on her way to work.

Firefighters from Padungan station were deployed to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 6.08 am.

Upon arrival, they confirmed the incident and discovered the woman was unable to climb out of the drain due to its depth.

Rescuers assisted her out of the drain and administered initial treatment for her right leg injury.

She was later taken to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further medical care.

The team ended the rescue operation at 6.53 am.
