KUCHING: An evening fire that broke out in the server room at Wisma Bapa Malaysia was successfully extinguished by the Fire and Rescue Department yesterday.
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the 7.10pm incident as all of the occupants evacuated the government building safely.
A spokesman from the department’s operations centre said they received a distress call regarding smoke coming out from the third floor of the building.
Firemen from Petra Jaya and Padungan stations were deployed to the scene to commence extinguishing works and the flames were doused off at 8.45pm.
The team attempted to enter the server room before the extinguishing work began, but they had to rethink their tactics after hearing small explosions from inside room.
At 8.28pm, the building’s electrical supply was disconnected, allowing the team to access the server room and extinguish the fire.
It was understood that a switch box in the server room suddenly caught on fire.
Nonetheless, the actual cause of the fire is still under investigation by the fire forensic unit.
