MUKAH: Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine has called for the construction of a new indoor stadium here, given the urgent need to further develop the area’s athletic talent.

“Better and more comfortable sports facilities would allow us to implement a wider range of sporting activities, including hockey and futsal, along with other community events,” he said.

He pointed to the success of the Mukah hockey team, particularly in the under-18, under-15, and under-12 age groups, despite lacking a dedicated hockey field.

“These young athletes have consistently impressed in state-level competitions,” said Royston while observing the team’s training session at the Kala Dana Beach, in preparation for the upcoming Mukah Division School Sports Council Championship.

“Just recently, in early March, Mukah dominated the under-15 boys’ category at the state-level SSC-PHNS Championship, taking home both the best player and best goalkeeper awards,” he added.

He further cited the recent triumph at the Sarawak Open 4-A-Side Field Hockey Championship, where the team secured victories in the under-17 boys and girls’ categories, along with a third-place finish in the under-15 boys’ division.
