KUCHING: The quality of leadership in politicians outweighs the significance of their gender, according to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
As such, he did not rule out the possibility of Sarawak having a woman premier in the future.
“If Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak can be the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, why not (women be the next premier here)?
“You have to face reality. If she is good, able to unite the people and have vision, why not?
“Nowadays, there shouldn’t be any concern on gender. As long as she can perform and people have confidence in her, why not?” he said.
He said this during the press conference after launching the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Women Machinery at Penview Convention Centre on Today (Oct 30).
Meanwhile, when asked on the finalised list of candidates for the 15th general election, the GPS chairman disclosed that for now, the list is at 99.9 percent finalised.
“For now, we still need to filter out one or two names in the finalised list.
“Moreover, I am still waiting for clearance from Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and Malaysian Department of Insolvency. I have received clearance from Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) but not the other two,” he revealed.
