KUCHING: The iconic White Cat statue at Jalan Padungan here has once again embraced the festive spirit, this time donning a ‘baju Melayu’ in conjunction with the celebration of Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2025.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian highlighted the statue’s evolving decorations throughout the year, emphasising its role as a unifying symbol for Kuching, aptly known as the City of Unity.
“By changing its costumes and decorations in conjunction with various festivals, the cat truly reflects Kuching’s spirit of unity.
“This is made possible through the efforts of the Kuching South City Council (MBKS).
“And in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), some of the decorations this year incorporate recycled materials, including rubber tyres,” he said.
He said this in a statement posted at his official Facebook recently.
Dr Sim also took the opportunity to reaffirm Sarawak’s commitment to unity and harmony.
“In Sarawak, we never take for granted the spirit of unity, solidarity, and respect.
“There is no place for bigotry, extremism, or division here.
“We don’t just play our role; we actively live these values daily,” he said.
With Sarawak striving towards its 2030 vision, Dr Sim stressed that efforts in nation-building must begin now.
“The time for a new era of Sarawak’s nation-building is now. The work is now, even though our target is 2030,” said Dr Sim.
