KUCHING: The Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) has confirmed the discovery of a whale carcass near the Triso Bridge earlier yesterday.
The corporation said this was following search efforts initiated after a viral video drew widespread public attention.
“Preliminary assessments reveal that the carcass is in an advanced state of decomposition and is on the verge of disintegration.
“It is currently stuck on a bar and can only be retrieved during high tide. The whale, estimated to be an adult ?????? species, measures approximately 10 metres in length, with a tail fluke of around 2.8 metres and about 50 throat grooves,” SFC said in a statement on its Facebook page yesterday (Nov 22).
The corporation added their veterinary and forensics teams, in collaboration with Sarawak Museum Department, will collect the bones today (Nov 23) for further analysis.
On Thursday (Nov 21), SFC said it has launched an investigation into claims of a whale carcass sighting near Pulau Seduku here after a video of the alleged discovery went viral on social media.
It said the incident was first reported by fishermen from Sebuyau, who spotted the whale near the Triso-Sebuyau Bridge during low tide around 10 am on Nov 19.
