KUCHING: No Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) students in Sarawak missed their public examination despite several areas in the state being hit by floods on Tuesday (Feb 28).
New Sarawak Tribune was made to understand there were no reports of SPM students having missed their examination.
On the same day, it was reported that SMK Tun Abang Haji Openg and SMK Matu were hit by floodwaters.
The State Education Department was reached for comment but had not responded yet at the time of writing.
Earlier, New Sarawak Tribune reported that eight students sitting for their SPM had to travel by Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) boats to two examination centres at SMK Lake and SMK Paku due to floods.
The roads frequented by students to attend school had been cut off by floodwaters following a downpour since Monday night (Feb 27).
The affected students are from Kampung Segubang and Kampung Bau Lama.
A total of 36,523 candidates are sitting for their SPM 2022 examination at 259 centres throughout Sarawak.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of continuous rain for several areas in Sarawak starting Feb 27 until Wednesday (Mar 1).
It is forecast that the affected areas are Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah and Bintulu (Tatau and Bintulu).
The public is urged to monitor the weather condition through the MetMalaysia official website at https://www.met.gov.my/en/, the myCuaca mobile application or the department’s official social media pages.
