KUCHING: The district police have reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring public safety and maintaining order during the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.
Kuching police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said this when met by reporters during the district police headquarters’ (IPD) 218th Police Day commemoration assembly this morning.
He said officers, particularly the traffic police, will be deployed on the ground to manage traffic flow and uphold security throughout the festive period.
“This will be a non-issue for us as we have already made early preparations. All leave has been frozen during this period to ensure we have sufficient personnel on duty.
“Our priority is to ensure that we can provide swift response to any incidents reported the public,” he said.
On vacant homes during the holiday period, Mohd Farhan urged those leaving their homes, to inform the nearest police station so that regular patrols can be conducted in their neighbourhoods.
Aside from that, he encouraged them to notify their neighbours or the neighbourhood watch groups to stay vigilant and alert the police in the event of suspicious individuals in their area.
“Let us prevent crime together and should the public have any incidents to report, they can reach us via the IPD operations centre’s hotline at 082-244444,” he said.
During the Police Day commemoration assembly, Mohd Farhan presented the Pingat Jasa Pahlawan Negara (PJPN) to six recipients, received by their next of kin.
He also handed out certificates of appreciation to Kuching South City Council (MBKS), Kuching North City Hall (DBKU), five media practitioners, 15 members of the Kuching Police Family Association (Perkep) and two members of the public.
Also receiving certificates of appreciation were 22 police personnel comprising one senior officer, 13 rank-and-file officers and eight general staff members.
