SIBU: The Azman Hashim Community Sports Centre came alive on the night of Dec 31 as thousands gathered to welcome 2025 in a dazzling New Year Countdown celebration.
Organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), the event was the talk of the town, featuring electrifying performances by Malaysia’s top talents, including Baby Shima, Bunkface, and a host of other stars.
Although an untimely downpour at 5 pm threatened to dampen the mood, the rain ceased by 6 pm, paving the way for eager crowds to flood the venue.
Families and friends, many of whom strolled from nearby homes, added a heartwarming touch to the evening, turning it into a true community celebration.
The night kicked off with vibrant cultural performances that beautifully blended traditional and modern styles, setting the stage for a series of unforgettable acts.
The energy soared as national and local artistes graced the stage, drawing cheers from the crowd.
Adding a touch of prestige to the event, the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture and Dudong assemblyman, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, arrived at 11 pm, accompanied by Bawang Assan assemblyman Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh and Krian assemblyman Friday Belik.
Their presence underscored the significance of the celebration for Sibu and its community.
The climax of the night was a breathtaking 15-minute fireworks display, painting the sky in vibrant colours and leaving the audience in awe.
As the clock struck midnight, Bunkface delivered a high-octane performance of its hit song ‘Malam Ini Kita Punya’, ‘Situasi’ and many more, ending the night on a euphoric note.
Also present were MOTAC secretary-general Datuk Wira Roslan Tan Sri Abdul Rahman and Political Secretary to Sarawak Premier, Joshua Ting Fu Ying.
