MUKAH: This year was supposed to be the grand finale of Wawasan 2020 (Vision 2020), but it has been hampered by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Wawasan 2020 was introduced by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in 1991 which calls for the nation to achieve a self-sufficient industrialised nation by the year 2020.
The impact of Covid-19 was huge as it inflicted anyone regardless of colour, age, background and geographical location.
Mukah Division deputy Resident Abdul Halim Abdullah said 2020 was really an eventful year for Malaysians.
“Wawasan 2020 was not achieved as planned. Instead, the unprecedented Covid-19 has greatly impacted our country,” he said at the Community Engagement@Mukah programme at the New Administrative Centre here yesterday.
He was representing Mukah Division Resident Hamdiah Bakir.
Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo officiated at the closing of the half-day event, which received a 98 percent turnout.
According to Abdul Halim, the biggest impact from Covid-19 was the new normal, which the people have been adapting to since the movement control order (MCO) was enforced on March 18.
He added that the new normal taught the people to instil good discipline, such as practising and maintaining cleanliness in our daily life.
