BEKENU: Nearly 10,000 people converged here since Friday for the Subis Water Sport.
At yesterday’s launching, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan was optimistic that the event would boost local tourism.
“I believe that Subis Water Sport can help accelerate the local economy,” he added.
Awang Tengah’s text of speech was read out by Women, Family and Childhood Development Assistant Minister Rosey Yunus.
The event was organised by the Subis District Office in collaboration with Bekenu, Lambir and Sibuti services centres together with the Rancah Rancab Sports Club.
The main objective of the event, which has been organised since 2016, is to promote Subis District and its surrounding areas to tourists through water sport activities.
A total of 36 events including powerboat and raft races were held in the three-day event which ends today.
Also present yesterday were Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni and Lambir assemblyman Ripin Lamat.
