BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The original genealogical record of Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, spanning over 200 years, was submitted to the Brunei History Centre for reference and further study on today (June 25).

The Sarawak Governor handed over a copy of the genealogy to Pengiran Mohd Hasnan Pengiran Ali Hassan, Permanent Secretary of the Brunei Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, during his visit to the centre.

Accompanied by his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, Wan Junaidi arrived at 10am and proceeded to the Genealogy Exhibition Hall, which showcases genealogies integral to Brunei Darussalam’s history.

Officials at the Brunei History Centre detailed the lineage and historical background of Wan Junaidi’s mother, Sharifah Hanifah, who is said to be from the Al Aiydrus family from the Faqih Muqqaddam line, based on handwritten notes by researcher Jamil Al-Sufri.

The notes highlight Hussein Abdul Kadir’s connection to the Al Aiydrus lineage, linking him as an ancestor on his mother’s side.

However, research on Wan Junaidi’s mother’s genealogy remains ongoing for further insights and scholarly investigation.

Meanwhile, the Genealogy Unit of the Brunei History Centre has completed the lineage tracing of Wan Junaidi’s father, revealing connections to figures such as Sayid Yassin Al-Yahya from Terengganu, Sayyid Agil from Banting, Sarawak, and further ancestors, including Sayyid Muhammad, Sayyid Hamid, Sayyid Zainal Abidin and Tuanku Hassan.

Following the centre visit, Wan Junaidi and his wife embarked on a tour of the historical Brunei River before departing to Kuching around 3pm.
