The distinguished couple, who arrived by Sarawak Coast Guard ship, were accompanied by a host of prominent state leaders, including Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
Upon their arrival at 11.50 am, they were greeted by a sea of well-wishers and dignitaries, including Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Leonard Linggi Jugah, Works Minister and Kapit MP Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, and Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki and Tupong assemblyman Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman.
Clad in traditional Iban ‘Gagong Iban’ attire, Wan Junaidi and Abang Johari were warmly welcomed by the public as they made their way to Fort Sylvia, where they were greeted with a traditional ‘Ngajat’ dance performance.
The 1924 Peace-Making Ceremony was a pivotal moment in Sarawak’s history, uniting the Dayak and Orang Ulu communities after years of conflict.
The signing ceremony, symbolised by the sacrifice of a pig, marked the end of a long-standing feud and laid the foundation for the harmony and unity that continue to thrive in Kapit today.
Also present were Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law and Native Customs) Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Datuk Wilson Ugak, Baleh assemblyman Nicholas Kudi, and Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki.
