SIBU: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar was officially appointed as the second Chancellor of the University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) today (Dec 14).
The proclamation was read by Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, who is also Chairman of the UTS Board of Directors, during the university’s 9th Convocation Ceremony.
Dr Annuar said Wan Junaidi’s vision of a sustainable Sarawak, driven by technological and intellectual progress, aligns perfectly with UTS’ mission.
He added that the new Chancellor advocates a blend of tradition and innovation, promoting education that not only provides technical expertise but also instils cultural wisdom and resilience, which are hallmarks of Sarawak’s identity.
“With Wan Junaidi’s leadership, UTS is set to become a beacon of excellence, bridging the gap between academia, industry and society.
“Under his stewardship as Chancellor, we will deepen our commitment to producing leaders equipped to tackle the complexities of the modern world.
“These leaders will drive advancements in green technology, sustainable energy, and digital transformation, ensuring Sarawak’s place on the global stage,” he said.
He also said that the journey of Wan Junaidi, from the forests of Sarawak to the halls of national and international diplomacy, reflects the essence of leadership and integrity.
“His steadfast commitment to public service, coupled with his intellectual rigour, has earned him the respect and admiration of everyone who knows him.
“Today, as Wan Junaidi assumes the role of Chancellor, UTS is ready to enter a new era of growth and excellence,” he said.
Dr Annuar added that Wan Junaidi’s presence at the helm is not merely symbolic but a call to the UTS community to aim higher, innovate boldly, and serve with a clear purpose.
“Let us pledge our full support to our new Chancellor. Together, under his wise and visionary leadership, UTS will soar to unprecedented heights, not only becoming a leading institution in Sarawak but also a global leader.
“Let us honour Wan Junaidi’s legacy by committing ourselves to the pursuit of knowledge, innovation, and excellence, ensuring that UTS remains a cornerstone of progress for our beloved Sarawak,” he said.
Also present at the ceremony was Wan Junaidi’s wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.
