SUNGAI ASAP: The SOP Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Sarawak Oil Palms Group (SOP), organised a Vision Care Project at Uma Sambop in observance of World Sight Day.

The initiative provided essential eye care services to 138 residents of Uma Sambop and nearby longhouses, including Batu Pilau and Long Nanyan on Tuesday.

In collaboration with Klinik Kesihatan Sg. Asap and Spec Shop Sdn Bhd, the SOP Foundation offered free health and eye check-ups throughout the day.

Eyeglasses were also provided at no cost to those in need, with all expenses generously covered by the SOP Foundation.

“Sight is a critical aspect of overall health, and through this Vision Care Project, we aim to ensure that residents in remote areas like Uma Sambop, Batu Pilau and Long Nanyan have access to essential eye care services.

“Our partnership with Klinik Kesihatan Sg. Asap and Spec Shop Sdn Bhd has been vital in making this project a success. Matu Lian, the chieftain of the host longhouse, expressed heartfelt gratitude for selecting his longhouse as the venue,” said a representative of the SOP Foundation.

He commended the SOP Foundation for covering all expenses related to the eye screening programme and sponsoring eyeglasses for residents in need, highlighting the positive impact on the community’s quality of life.

Initiated in 2013, the SOP Foundation Vision Care Project aims to raise awareness about healthy living and reduce preventable blindness, particularly among children and the elderly in remote areas with limited access to medical facilities.

SOP, through the SOP Foundation, remains committed to supporting local community development through various programmes. These include initiatives in education, healthcare, disaster relief, and more, reflecting SOP’s ongoing dedication to making a positive impact on the communities it serves.
