KUCHING: Coins and banknotes enthusiasts can now view the numismatic collection at Sarawak Museum through its virtual exhibition.

The exhibition displays the Sarawak Museum’s numismatic collection from the Brunei, British, Brooke, and Japanese eras.

Numismatics refers to the collection of currencies, which includes banknotes and coins.

According to the Sarawak Museum’s website, ‘numismatics’ borrows the French word ‘numismatiques’ in the 17th-century coin. The origin of this word is also from the Greek language ‘nomisma’.

Interestingly, the virtual exhibition also displays early currency used in Sarawak, which include copper objects, tajau, Lukut Sekala beads and others as barter objects.

For those who wish to view the collection, visit the website at https://sites.google.com/view/jms-pameran-numismatik-2021-en/home?authuser=2&fbclid=IwAR3Vx3kDXGvAbw19TecWmAXjWLiOwhTX-MaXJfH8wUNsqNTDXJqbOohPftk.

Public can also do so by scanning the bar code provided on the Sarawak Museum Department’s Facebook page.
