KUALA LUMPUR : The value of construction work done in 2018 stood at RM145.5 billion, a growth of 5.1 percent, when compared to RM138.5 billion in the previous year.
Chief Statistician Malaysia Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said for the fourth quarter (Q4) 2018, the value recorded a moderate growth of 4.1 percent year-on-year at RM36.5 billion.
“The expansion in value of construction work done was driven by the positive growth in the civil engineering, special trades activities and non-residential buildings sub-sectors, which grew by 14.3 percent, 8.2 percent and 2.5 percent respectively.
“However, the residential buildings sub-sector, declined to 9.2 percent,” he said in a statement yesterday.
The statement also said that in Q4 2018, the civil engineering sub-sector continued to dominate the performance of construction work done with a 42.6 percent share, followed by non-residential buildings (28.4 percent), residential buildings (24.2 percent) and special trades activities (4.8 percent).
The private sector continued to propel the construction activity with a 56.2 percent share (RM20.5 billion) as compared to the public sector at 43.8 percent (RM16.0 billion). –Bernama
