MELAKA: Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) has achieved another milestone when its Chief Information Officer (CIO) Mohd Isa Mohd Dom won the CIO Circle of Excellence Award Asia 2021 in the platinum category.

The university was also the sole recipient from the education field in the Asia Pacific to receive the award from Cisco and CNBC-TV18, in a ceremony that was held online recently.

UTeM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Raha Abdul Rahim said the prestigious award had boosted the university’s credibility at the international level.

“It also showcases UTeM’s continuous efforts in pioneering and leading the current challenges in ensuring its entire operation, including the online teaching and learning process, is carried out successfully despite facing the Covid-19 pandemic,” she said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, Mohd Isa said the main challenge faced was to ensure that the information and communications technology (ICT) services throughout the organisation run smoothly in line with the new norms that were beginning to be cultivated around the world.

He said it included ensuring all 13,000 students and 1,000 lecturers in UTeM were able to implement the online teaching and learning process effectively and efficiently.

“Besides that, the full online examination system is the latest to be developed and we also managed to improve the ICT infrastructure, focusing on a high-speed network, wireless access and advanced computing system, in line with the current demands,” said Mohd Isa.
