MIRI: Miri City Council (MCC) has commenced upgrading work on Tamu Muhibbah/Tamu Khas and Pasar Besar Krokop.
Work, which began on March 1, would be carried out in phases.
For affected stallholders, MCC would arrange for them to trade temporarily under canopies erected in front of the Tamu and market.
In a statement on Monday (March 15), MCC said that work at Miri Central Market, Miri Open Air Market had been completed.
Upgrading of Unity Cooked Food Centre is still in progress.
MCC would carry out upgrading work on 11 markets, Tamu and cooked-food centres this year pending final confirmation on allocation of funds and resolution of technical issues.
Details of improvement work on Tamu Muhibbah/ Tamu Khas and Pasar Besar Krokop are as follows:
Construction period: March 1 until May 31
Phase 1: Tamu Muhibbah (March 1 until April 22)
Tamu Muhibbah to close from 15/3/2021 until 22/4/2021
Phase 2: Tamu Khas (April 23 until May 31)
Tamu Khas to close from7/5/2021 until 31/5/2021
Pasar Besar Krokop, Jalan Krokop Utama
Construction period: March 1 until May 31
Phase 1: First Floor to close from March 1 until April 4
Phase 2: Wet Market to close from April 5 until April 26
Phase 3: Dry Stalls Section to close from April 26 until May 31
The Engineering Department would oversee the construction work.
The Public Health Section would coordinate with stallholders and issue relevant notices to the public and stallholders.
