SIBU: A concrete pathway connecting Jalan Tai Sing and Jalan Fu Kui here is set for repairs and upgrades soon, promising improved convenience for local residents.
According to Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) Environment and Public Standing Committee chairman Councillor Kevin Lau Kor Jie, the project aims to address essential infrastructure needs in Bawang Assan.
“The project was funded by a special allocation under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) from Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg,” he said when met by reporters during the project document handover to the contractor at the project site yesterday (Jan 4).
Lau, who is also the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan branch chairman, urged the contractor to commence work without delay.
“This section of the pathway was inspected last year together with local community leaders and council engineers.
“After assessing the extent of damage to the concrete road, we decided that upgrading was necessary to ensure safer and more convenient motorcycle access between these two roads,” he said.
Acknowledging previous delays due to unforeseen circumstances, Lau assured that preparations are now completed.
“We hope the contractor will expedite the project, as it will bring significant convenience to the residents in the area,” he added.
Lau also pledged his team’s commitment to closely monitoring the project’s progress to ensure its timely completion.
