MIRI: Local Member of Parliament Chiew Choon Man has expressed strong optimism about the potential of skill-based programmes like the Skills for Life Partner Programme: Canva Foundation Course to enhance the capabilities of local youth and communities.
Speaking at the event hosted by Miri Community College in partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia (KBS) on Saturday, Chiew emphasised the transformative impact of such initiatives on participants’ career and entrepreneurial prospects.
The programme introduced attendees to the Canva graphic design platform, an increasingly vital tool in the digital economy.
According to Chiew, mastering these skills can open doors to freelancing, creative content development and entrepreneurship, aligning with efforts to foster creativity and innovation here.
“This programme empowers our youth and communities by equipping them with essential digital tools.
“It provides a foundation for those looking to enter the creative industries and generate income, while also contributing to the development of a more creative, innovative, and competitive society,” Chiew remarked.
Chiew highlighted the need for regular implementation of such programmes in Miri, underscoring their role in not only enhancing personal skills but also boosting the local economy.
He encouraged the community to seize the opportunity to participate in similar initiatives, which he believed add value to individuals while fostering a culture of lifelong learning.
Looking ahead, Chiew pledged to secure funding and collaborate with stakeholders, including the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Rhema Christian Youth Association, and Miri Community College, to ensure such beneficial programmes are conducted more frequently.
“These collaborations are crucial to nurturing local talent and promoting lifelong education,” he concluded, reinforcing his commitment to supporting initiatives that empower Miri’s youth and community through skill development.
