SIBU: The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan branch distributed dates and beverages to local unsung heroes as a token of appreciation.
Its chairman, Councillor Kevin Lau, said the items were distributed to members of the Civil Defence Force (APM), Sungai Merah Police Station, and the Fire and Rescue Department on Sunday.
“We distributed them not only in conjunction with the holy month of Ramadan but also as a gesture of gratitude to these government agencies for their dedication throughout the flood season,” he said in a statement yesterday (March 24).
During the visits, Lau discussed ongoing flood issues affecting the Bawang Assan area and other matters requiring government support, such as verifying flood reports and fulfilling documentation requests from local authorities.
“We also want to express our appreciation to APM for assisting in transporting SPM candidates to Kwong Hua Middle School for their examinations in January, as well as to the Fire and Rescue Department for their efforts in helping flood-affected residents during the recent floods,” he added.
Additionally, they sought to gain insight into the agencies’ operational procedures to better serve as a bridge between the authorities and affected communities.
Lau also thanked representatives of the agencies for their dedication and acknowledged their collaboration with the SUPP Bawang Assan branch team, community leaders, and local councillors.
