KUCHING: The celebration of Unity Week is a signature programme by the Ministry of National Unity which is celebrated throughout Malaysia every year.
Its minister, Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said through the effort, it can reflect how the Royal Institutions, leaders and rakyat should sow the seeds of unity among each other.
“This step will enable the children of the nation to continue inheriting a peaceful and prosperous country.
“Everything we do today is a huge investment for future generations,” he said when speaking at the opening ceremony of Unity Week Celebration 2023 at Kuching Waterfront, here, today.
He also said that unity should be a way of life and practice for all.
“It is not an engineering that is only beautiful on paper and verses of a song. Unity is the freshness and the flame that strengthens all Malaysians to become more patriotic citizens of Malaysia,” he said.
Meanwhile, Aaron said that in line with the hopes of the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Unity Government, the ministry took the initiative to produce the MADANI Malaysia Development Framework with the concept of Unity in Diversity.
“Under this framework, there are three programme clusters, namely Semarak Kenegaaran, Semarak Perpaduan and Komuniti Rahmah,” he said.
The programme which was celebrated for the first time focused on nationalism, culture, art and heritage through various mechanisms such as interaction and continuous social relations at the “inter” and “intra” ethnic levels.
“With this it can promote understanding, tolerance, respect between communities of various races, religions and cultures,” he added.
