KUCHING: Sarawak’s unity and political stability have driven it to prosperity, with transformative growth and more remarkable achievements anticipated by 2030.

In making this assertion Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Hui Kian said there is still more to achieve and predicted that by 2030, Sarawak will be even more prosperous.

“In five years, Sarawak will be very different from what it is today,” he said during a festive lantern lighting ceremony at the Hexagonal Pavilion in Poh Kwong Park here.

“Many people now acknowledge Sarawak’s wealth, but our wealth is not simply about money.

“It is because of our unity that we have the opportunity to grow the economy,” he said.

Stating that the progress achieved by Sarawak was tremendous Dr Sim said unity remained the state’s greatest strength.

“We Sarawakians gather in the same coffee shops, eat together, enjoy life together, and even gain weight together,” he said, highlighting the shared experiences that define the spirit of Sarawak.

He said there was a time when Sarawak faced scepticism and was often underestimated, but today, it is a beacon of hope and respect and has become a source of inspiration and expectation.

“Sarawak’s transformation is a testament to our focus on self-reliance, as we now retain resources for our progress rather than selling them to others.

“Unity remains our greatest strength; if we stand together, we can leverage our financial resources and autonomy to achieve even greater success without conflict.

“Our pride in Sarawak must be rooted in value, with a commitment to cultivating talent and securing a prosperous future for generations to come,” he added.

The festive lighting-up was brought to life with a dazzling fireworks display and a lively lion dance performance presented by the Shin Teck Eng Khon Temple, adding to the festive cheer.

Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Batu Lintang branch chairman, Sih Hua Tong, was also present.
