KOTA SAMARAHAN: The development of the Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) Teaching Hospital is progressing well with construction already at 52 per cent.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusod said the project under the Ministry of Higher Education, with Public Works Department (PWD) Malaysia as the implementing agency and Unimas as the end user, is on track.
“We made a visit today to the site, and I have suggested addressing several issues that require resolution.
“According to reports from PWD Malaysia and the consultants, overall monitoring indicates that the project is on schedule.
“However, we need to consider feedback from the Ministry of Higher Education and input from Unimas as the end user,” he said.
From that, Fadillah said they will prepare a report for review and evaluation.
“If necessary, I may call for a meeting with the team involved in the construction of this hospital. As of now, the project has achieved 52 per cent progress,” he said.
He said this to reporters after the visit to the construction site of SMK Kota Samarahan and the Unimas Teaching Hospital here today.
On the visit to the SMK Kota Samarahan site, Fadillah mentioned that safety concerns were also raised.
In this context he stressed the importance of improving walkway designs connecting school buildings.
“The current structure may not adequately shield against heavy rain and strong winds, potentially causing water pooling and safety hazards for students and teachers.
“Students often run through these areas, and slippery conditions could lead to accidents. I urged the team to reassess and address this issue promptly,” said Fadillah.
Despite these concerns, he said both projects are progressing as planned, and their developments are being closely monitored to ensure timely completion.
