KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), through the Unimas Entrepreneurship Centre, made history by being selected as a strategic partner for the e-Usahawan Hub by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).
This official announcement was made during the presentation ceremony of the e-Usahawan Hub plaque by Ts Nik Naharudin Mohd Nasir, director of Digital Talent and Entrepreneurship Division, MDEC, at the closing ceremony of the #UNIMASpreneur 2024 Carnival.
The event took place on Dec 14 at the Dewan Kristal, Student and Alumni Affairs Building, Unimas. The event was officiated by Unimas vice-chancellor Prof Dr Ahmad Hata Rashid.
“The recognition of Unimas as an e-Usahawan Hub aims to strengthen the e-Usahawan MDEC ecosystem to encourage the participation of the surrounding community in digital entrepreneurship,”according to a press statement by Unimas today (Dec 23).
In addition to the commitment provided by Unimas, its strategic location also played a significant role in its selection as part of the e-Usahawan Hub network.
*Through this recognition, all information regarding MDEC-organized training and programmes will be channeled to Unimas as part of the hub network.”
In his speech, Nik Naharudin expressed his hope that the collaboration between MDEC and Unimas would continue to provide greater benefits not only to students and local entrepreneurs but also to Unimas itself.
At the closing ceremony of the #UNIMASpreneur 2024 Carnival, Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Berhad (PUNB) also announced a strategic collaboration with the Unimas Entrepreneurship Centre (UEC) for the implementation of the Uni-Challenge 2024 Programme.
“This initiative aims to cultivate social entrepreneurship startup talent at an early stage, especially among university students.”
The programme offers students the opportunity to generate innovative business ideas in social entrepreneurship while receiving direct guidance from industry experts.
“Five student groups competed for prizes totaling RM7,000. Through this collaboration, Unimas will play a significant role in advancing social entrepreneurship in Sarawak, aligned with the national economic agenda.
“This effort is expected to produce more successful entrepreneurs capable of generating positive impacts on society and the economy from within the university student community.”
Both strategic partners, MDEC and PUNB, also participated in enlivening this year’s #UNIMASpreneur Carnival, which took place over two days, Dec 13 and 14.
The annual carnival was organised by the Unimas Entrepreneurship Centre (UEC) in collaboration with the Unimas Student Entrepreneurship Club (KESISMA).
The carnival successfully brought together 190 sales booths involving over 1,200 Unimas students taking the basic entrepreneurship course, with full support from the course lecturers.
Agencies such as the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC), Bank Rakyat, CelcomDigi, Pungu Borneo, Level Up, Worming Up, and PetroTech were also present at the two-day carnival.
