KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) Primary Health Centre (PKP) here is set to begin operations this coming September.
In stating this, federal Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said that PKP is the first phase of the Unimas Teaching Hospital development project.
“The phase 1 has been completed, while the second phase which involves the main building of the Unimas Teaching Hospital is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
“With PKP, it will certainly served as a teaching and learning facilities for the university’s medical students,” he said.
He said this during a press conference after the handover ceremony for the completion of phase 1 PKP Unimas at Kota Samarahan here today (June 13).
Earlier, in his speech, Nanta said that the construction project of PKP is yet another people-centric project reflecting the government’s concern for the people.
“It is a landmark and the only PKP for Kota Samarahan, which will undoubtedly provide significant benefits in terms of health care and well-being to the people of Kota Samarahan.
“Another interesting aspect is that the construction of this PKP is part of the Unimas campus, which will simultaneously enhance teaching and learning facilities and serve as a practical training site for the university’s medical students.
“I am confident that this PKP will eventually develop into a Medical and Specialist Centre like the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre, HUKM, and USM Kubang Kerian,” said Nanta.
He also said that the main scope for Phase 1 includes building components such as PKP, Surau, Daycare Centre, Cafeteria, Mechanical and Electrical building and elevated water tank.
“The Unimas PKP is a daily health centre intended to handle non-critical health cases similar to the functions of health clinics under the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH).
“This PKP also has facilities such as an X-Ray Room, Cough Clinic, Eye Clinic, Senior Citizen Clinic, Medical Laboratory, and Public Health Examination Room.
“Besides facilities for local residents, PKP also provides learning, teaching, and practical training facilities in various fields for UNIMAS medical students. This includes Discussion Rooms and Seminar Rooms,” he said.
