KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) hosted a two-day seminar on “Empowering Digitalisation: Inspiring Connections Through Artificial Intelligence & Citizen Science” from December 18 to 19.
The seminar, organised by the Chief Digital Officer’s Office in collaboration with UNIMAS AI Hub and the Open Asia project co-funded by the European Union, featured a series of interactive discussions on artificial intelligence led by a panel of industry speakers, workshops on building artificial intelligence capacity, and an inaugural lecture on artificial intelligence.
In conjunction with the seminar, the chairman of the UNIMAS board of directors, Tan Sri Datuk Sri Panglima Sulong Matjeraie, witnessed an exchange of memorandums of understanding between UNIMAS and EXXOR Technologies Sdn Bhd, a Malaysian information and engineering technology company specialising in cutting-edge technology and generative artificial intelligence.
“EXXOR Technologies is involved in supplying intelligent asset management solutions for customers across various industries,” UNIMAS said in a statement today (Dec 23).
The partnership between UNIMAS’s Chief Digital Officer’s Office and EXXOR Technologies aims to enhance research and development, education, and capabilities in the field of artificial intelligence, internet of things, geographic information systems, and digital technology.
During the seminar, UNIMAS presented awards to the winners of a hackathon event called REKATHON, which kicked off in October 2024.
REKATHON is based on REKA App Builder, an online no-code app development platform developed in 2018.
“REKA App aims to quickly develop digital solutions and has been a catalyst for digital transformation, significantly driving innovation both within and outside UNIMAS,” it added.
UNIMAS acknowledged the contribution of the Sarawak Transformation and Innovation Unit of the Department of the Premier of Sarawak and Sarawak Skills as sponsors in ensuring the success of the REKATHON.
The two-day seminar was attended by academics, students, and industry practitioners.
