Unimas collaborates with ST, SS

KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) is collaborating with New Sarawak Tribune (ST) and Suara Sarawak (SS) to enhance its visibility.

“We are aiming to play a more active role as a content provider, coming up with a more systematic arrangement of how we can provide content and the way in which ST and SS can capture news from Unimas,” said Unimas Global director Assoc Prof Dr Shanti Faridah Salleh.

She said Unimas would be contributing weekly columns to the papers, focusing on critical reviews.

She added that they are also aiming to collaborate with ST and SS with regard to talent excellence of journalists, trainings and workshops.

The collaboration and its details were discussed during a visit by Unimas Global delegates to the management of ST and SS at the latter’s office here today.

Led by Shanti, the Unimas Global delegation also included Dr Ernisa Marzuki, deputy director of Strategic Communication and Branding; Dr Lidyana Roslan, coordinator of Media Unit; and Sarena Haidir, publication assistant officer.

ST and SS were represented by their chief executive officer (CEO) Dr Jeniri Amir.

Also in attendance was ST executive editor Rajah Murugaiah, as well as editors of both papers.

“We feel that it is about time for us to enhance what we have and try to learn from the experience of ST and SS, as well as clearly define the roles of each side in order to establish a strategic relationship for mutual benefit.

“I hope this collaboration will have positive impacts for ST, SS and Unimas,” said Shanti.

She explained that Unimas Global was responsible for the university’s branding and visibility.

“Our aim is to make Unimas visible globally and we would also like to act as a catalyst for Unimas to become a global standard,” she said.

Among Unimas’ targets in its Strategic Plan 2021-2025 is to establish learning centres overseas to enhance its global prominence and visibility.
