KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) proudly announced its outstanding achievements at the 2024 Seoul International Invention Fair (SIIF 2024), held from November 27 to 30 in Seoul, South Korea.

UNIMAS researchers brought home an impressive haul of accolades, including five Special Awards, a Gold Medal, a Silver Medal, and a Bronze Medal, from four innovative research projects that captivated international judges and participants.

“These exceptional accomplishments are a testament to the collaborative spirit, innovative mindset, and unwavering commitment of the UNIMAS research community.

“The diverse projects, ranging from sustainable energy solutions to healthcare innovations and disaster management technologies, reflect the university’s vision to address global challenges through impactful research. These achievements underscore the spirit of innovation and dedication at UNIMAS and its continuous efforts to contribute meaningfully to global sustainability and research advancements,” UNIMAS said in its statement.

The prestigious awards highlight UNIMAS’ dedication to excellence in research and innovation, solidifying its reputation on the global stage.

Award-Winning Inventions and Recognitions:

1. SARAWAK LIBERICA COFFEE WASTES: SUSTAINABLE WELLNESS FUELLING A CIRCULAR ECONOMY

  • Special Award from Digital Ocean, Saudi Arabia
  • Researcher: Dr Elexson Nillian, Faculty of Resource Science and Technology (FRST), UNIMAS

2. CO-WASTE MFC: COCONUT WASTE MICROBIAL FUEL CELL WITH POWER MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

  • Bronze Medal
  • Special Award of Merit from The Department of Science and Technology-Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI), the Philippines
  • Special Award from Vietnam Fund for Supporting Technological Creations (VIFOTEC)
  • Researcher: Profesor Madya Ir Ts Dr Siti Kudnie Sahari, Faculty of Engineering (FENG), UNIMAS

3. FLOODWATCH: A FLOOD WATCHER FOR HYPERLOCAL, STREET-LEVEL FLOOD MAPPING AND MONITORING

  • Gold Medal
  • Outstanding Achievement Award from The Department of Science and Technology-Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI), the Philippines
  • Researcher: Dr Lau Sei Ping, Institute of Social Informatics and Technological Innovations (ISITI), UNIMAS

4. ANURANS TREASURE IN COMBATING DIABETES MELLITUS

  • Silver Medal
  • Thailand Award for the Best International Invention & Innovation from the National Research Council of Thailand
