BAU: A local woman sustained injuries, while her unborn baby tragically died following a two-vehicle collision at KM5.0, Kampung Opar-Rumih intersection, Jalan Bau-Lundu yesterday (Jan 7).

Bau police chief DSP Dr Daram Ruer said the accident happened at around 5.30 pm, involving a pick-up truck and a Perodua Bezza.

The collision is believed to have occurred when the pick-up truck driver was about to exit the right junction towards Bau and collided with the Bezza driven by the victim.

“As a result, the pregnant woman sustained internal injuries, and her 35-week old unborn baby was confirmed dead by medical officers from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

“The woman is currently receiving treatment at the SGH emergency ward,” he said in a statement.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Those with information regarding the accident are encouraged to come forward to facilitate investigations or contact the nearest police station.

Daram also advised road users to exercise caution when driving, particularly during uncertain weather conditions, and to ensure their vehicles are in good condition.
